Courage

Have you ever felt the exhilaration following a presentation at work, or taking an exam? You feel as if you can conquer anything. Taking courageous steps permits you to make a difference in the world.

Too often because of fear, we hold ourselves back from taking important steps that could improve the quality of our lives. We hope that some day we’ll just wake up and the fear will be gone. But believe me, the more you put it off, the more you live in mediocrity, never reaching for what you really want. Almost everything we do in life requires courage, whether it’s changing careers, leaving a toxic relationship, or giving a speech.

We all have courage in us. But, why do some people have the courage to develop their full potential, tell the truth, be bold, stand out in a crowd, fulfill a secret dream, or challenge a professional fear? They have built their courage muscles. Courage muscles are vital to discovering who we are and living life to it’s fullest.

Even small acts require great courage. The more we stretch beyond our comfort zone to conquer our fears, the stronger we become, creating confidence and belief in our ability to handle the challenges we encounter in life. Sandra Ford Walston in her book, Courage, says, “Small courageous acts accumulate like drops of rain in a puddle to create your own vast reservoir of courage.”

Coaching Challenge
What is an act you can take to build your courage? Declare that you’ll take that step toward fostering belief in your inner resources.

It’s helpful to have someone like a coach or a friend in place before and after taking a difficult step. Having support is essential to success.

Courage muscles are vital to knowing who we are and living life to it’s fullest.
Do your best. Don’t hesitate when something has to be done. Say yes to opportunities that will move you forward in your development to excellence.
