These playful, brilliant ideas are written by coach colleague Judy Feld. Addressed to business leaders and professionals, she invites you to take a two-year-olds view of the organizational environment. Its inspired by her nearly two-year-old grandson as she plays and laughs with him and undoubtedly learns a lot. Try it on in this New Year; you have nothing to lose. As Thomas Edison said: I havent failed, Ive found 10,000 ways that dont work.
Lead Like a Two-Year-Old©

From Jack, the two-year-old CEO...
Business Ethics and Standards
1. Play with those who play nicely.
2. Don't take what doesn't belong to you.
3. Share your toys.
Grown-up translation: Form positive alliances with people with high
standards. In your business dealings make sure you pay attention to an
equitable Exchange of Value [EOV] among all parties. EOV is a guiding
principle in SmartMatch Alliances:
Clear Communications
4. Ask for what you want. Ask again.
5. If it's too noisy, say "sssshhhh".
6. If you don't want to do something, say "No-no-no!"
Grown-up translation: Great leaders pay attention to effective
communications. Here's an excerpt from the "Alliance-Ability Checklist":
· Do you communicate effectively with others--verbally, in writing,
through E-mail?
· Have you mastered the art of listening between the lines for
important information and solid opportunities? Can you hear what is not
said as well as what is said?
· Can you say, Yesssss!? (And can you say, No thanks!?)
· Do you reply to phone calls, faxes, and E-mails within 24 hours?
Attitude
7. Run with joy--you won't fall.
8. If you fall...it's o.k. Shake it off.
9. Scare back what scares you.
Grown-up translation: Expand your horizons, flex new muscles, create a
bigger vision, and
most important of all
find greater joy and fulfillment
in your work and life. A coach can help.
Opportunity
10. Climb things.
11. If you can't reach things say "Up" or "Help me".
12. If you want to do it yourself, say so: "Jack do it"
Grown-up translation: Remember the Native American saying: I see, and I
forget. I hear, and I remember. I do and I understand. Your mind cannot
forget what your hands create. Give yourself the gift of this opportunity.
Above all:
13. Eat, sleep, and be merry.
14 Jump for joy!
15. Be brief.
We have.

I love this article because it brings humor and fun to the business arena. Making light allows us to see beyond the day-to-day challenges and struggles. Best in class organizations nurture best in class qualities: communication is mastered, people feel supported, systems help people be their most creative, personal and career development is shared between the employee and the organization. This level of quality is transmitted to the customer.
What skills and behaviors must you cultivate to become best-in-class for yourself and your organization? Notice what comes up and gain access to the answers you already have inside you.
A coach is someone who tells you what you dont want to hear, who has you see what you dont want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be. ~Tom Landry
