Coaching Is Not Just For Athletes...
If high achievers like professional athletes and Fortune 500 corporate executives have a coach to help define better goals and improve performance, why wouldn't you? Ambitious people avail themselves of resources that help them grow and improve.
Coaching is emerging in business today as a positive alternative to managing by objectives that can leave you to sink or swim. Coaching differs from traditional training programs that dump loads of information on you, only to be put on the shelf and forgotten or not implemented. It is different from consulting which often results in reports and processes that do not necessarily change the way people think and interact. Coaching is a partnership between coach and client that supports clients in developing their businesses...and their lives. Coaching shows people how to stretch their visions, values and abilities.
How do you know if you would benefit from a coach?
You may be ready for one-on-one coaching if you:
· Are running a business and want to do better.
· Are out of balance between work and life.
· Want to move in a different direction.
· Want a soundboard and support of someone to talk to about important issues.
Coaching is often prompted by a new event, a promotion or move to a new job, a change in job requirements or bosses, or making big decisions and changes in direction. We all have challenges in life; the key to getting through them is action. You'll need to be willing to change and experiment with new ways of doing things. Whether professionally coached or self-coached, if you don't want change, then nothing will change.
What makes a good coach?
A coach naturally establishes rapport with a variety of people, asks provocative questions that surface the wisdom of the individual, tracks effective and non-effective behavior, points out what the client can't see him or herself, provides positive encouragement and focuses on strengths. An effective coach sets the stage for you to create the momentum and consistency that positions you for your ideal opportunities.
How do you benefit? These are benefits defined by my coaching clients:
· Heightened awareness of abilities and how to use them to make better decisions.
· Freedom to put more emphasis on personal life while maintaining value at work.
· Improved listening skills and learned to ask the right questions to better understand others.
· Reduced stress by establishing priorities and aligning personal and professional goals.
· Making the same money with less time and stress.
· Crisper delivery in communication and improved power to influence.
Even if you're good today, that doesn't guarantee success tomorrow. You need to constantly motivate and refresh your work style and behavior. With a coach, you will do more than you would on your own.
